Celebrate South Riding

Annually in June, our neighborhood hosts a two day festival that culminates with fireworks on Saturday night. The best part is that the festival is in walking distance from our house and that we can watch the fireworks from the comfort of our own home. So we put the boys in their strollers and walked on over on Saturday afternoon. Nathan loved the rides, especially the big slide. The ride operator was shocked that he climbed all those stairs and went down the slide by himself! Dan and I enjoyed the fireworks from our bathroom window as we were getting ready for bed. What can we say, it had been a long fun day and with an infant in the house we need all the rest we can get!

It's Pool Time

Gramma and Grandad have a pool in their backyard, so we headed over to their house one Saturday afternoon for some fun. The weather was great, but the water was a little cold from all of the rain we had. But that didn't stop Nathan from frolicking around for about an hour, even though his lips were blue and he was shivering. Dan and Grandad get a huge points for going in with him. This was one day I was glad that I still have some pregnancy weight to lose and therefore, no swim suits that fit. (I do not like cold water!)

Tiger Woods in the Making

Last Sunday, I headed over to my parents house with the boys so Dan could have some quiet time at the house to catch up on work. Nathan loves to play golf and he is actually getting quite good at hitting the ball. Could he become the next Tiger Woods?!?!?!?

Happy Birthday Grammy!

On June 8th, Grammy turned sixty-___. (We won't tell.) So we went out to dinner to celebrate on Sunday night and then enjoyed a Carvel ice cream cake (a Hein family favorite). Happy Birthday Grammy!

Just Andrew

Sorry it's been awhile since I posted. Andrew has been a little fussier these days, so it's been hard for me to find time when I can sit at the computer with two free hands to type. This post will be fully devoted to Andrew as I realize most of my postings include pictures of only Nathan.

Andrew is already six weeks old and he is definitely growing. He weighs about 10 1/2 pounds and his 0-3 months clothes are starting to seem a little small (I'll have to start washing the 3-6 months clothes very, very soon). Andrew is a good sleeper at night (i.e, he usually feeds and goes right back to sleep), but he still feeds approximately every 3 hours. Occasionally, he'll stretch to 4 hours and one time he did 5 hours. But I know with time, he'll begin sleeping through the night.

Okay.... here are the photos.....

Here is Andrew in one of my favorite outfits from when Nathan was a baby with a matching hat made by his Gramma.

Last Saturday, Andrew got to meet Jillian Organek who is 5 weeks older than him.

Andrew with Nathan, who is still very proud to be a big brother.

Andrew resting peacefully.

A Great Day at the Farm

Last Saturday, we headed out to Bluemont, VA for strawberry picking at Great Country Farms with our friends the Hills and the Korsvalls. The weather could not have been more beautiful. We started the day with a tractor ride out to the fields to pick the strawberries...

We then headed back to the main part of the farm for lots and lots of fun activities for Nathan, Clara and Emilia to enjoy...

What a wonderful day at the farm. We'll be back again soon!

Herndon Festival

We had to take advantage of the beautiful weekend and all the fun events scheduled for the weekend. So after church, we headed over to Herndon for their annual festival. There were lots of food vendors, arts & crafts and carnival rides. Nathan enjoyed several of the rides and Andrew was a good sport to tag along in the hot weather.

New School for Nathan

Many of you have heard us rave about Nathan's daycare and how much we love Lanka, Karen and Maria. Well after three years, it was time for Nathan to move on to a new school. We were said to say goodbye (although we will see them again very soon when we start to drop off Andrew) and a bit nervous about the transition as Nathan's 1st day of school was also opening day for Discovery Station Learning Center.Well, after 5 days, we are pleased to say the transition could not have gone better. Nathan has really enjoyed it so far. He really likes his new teachers, Mr. Chris and Ms. Liz (a man, can you believe it? This is perfect for Nathan.) We asked him what he likes best about his new school, thinking he might say the playground, but he said, "Breakfast, Lunch and Snack." Nathan is definitely a good eater!

Cupcakes

Last weekend, to help to pull Nathan out of a death spiral (after two days full of fun and with almost no naps), I suggested that we make some cookies. Nathan really enjoys helping me in the kitchen these day so I thought this might work. Well, he didn't want to make cookies, he wanted to make cupcakes. Luckily I had the mix, we just needed to run out and by some icing while the cupcakes cooled. They were delicious!
